On New Year’s Eve 2022, after a day of rock climbing to ring in the new year, I was sitting in a friend’s truck. I’d been venting — about my job, my boss, how stuck I felt in my life. One long spiral of everything that was wrong.

When I finally paused long enough for him to respond, he looked at me calmly and said:

I didn’t have an answer. Not one.

I’d spent the better part of a year hating my life and zero minutes figuring out what I actually wanted instead. And if I’m honest, it wasn’t the first time I’d lost my footing. Life had already knocked me down more than once. But this question, this simple, direct question, cut through everything.

A little over a year later, I changed my life. I became a life coach, left my career, packed up and moved to the Pacific Northwest, leveled up to become a Certified High Performance Coach, and I’ve never been happier.

A close friend told me I changed more in that one year than in the 20 years she’d known me.
